In determining the pre-project status of the natural biological environment, one may utilise existing data, gather more data through field work or do both. When the time frame is short for undertaking evaluation for baseline status then reliance on past experience, existing scientific information, secondary information from local people and records of forest and district offices becomes essential. In the present study baseline information on status of wildlife species distribution/occurrence and habitat potential in the areas enroute the proposed pipeline was collected through the study of select parameters within each of )he units of the study areas and supplemented by existing information from the sources mentioned earlier .
