Workshop on Chemical Immobilization of elephants for managing Human–Elephant Conflict situations on 1^st to 2^nd November 2019 at Kochi, Kerala

The workshop was organized with the objective of sensitizing the PA Managers, Veterinary officers, Frontline staff and biologist from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka in the areas of elephant ecology, rescue and rehabilitation, human elephant conflict and its mitigation, chemical restraint for animal capture, transportation essentials, captive management, musth management and animal welfare. Field demonstrations of various procedures relevant to animal handling, captive care and welfare essentials were carried out Kodanad elephant camp. Field demonstration of various remote drug delivery systems suitable for darting elephants were discussed at length. Inputs were provided by eminent scientists and experts. A total of 41 officials from elephant range states participated in the workshop. Resource materials useful for the participants were distributed during the workshop.

Workshop on Management of elephant habitats to contain Human–Elephant Conflict on 20^th to 21^st January 2020 at Dehradun

Managing elephant habitat in the face of rapidly changing landscapes is a challenge, which rests on developing a comprehensive understating of the elephant–habitat interactions, population dynamics, social organization and dietary needs of elephants. Lately, the threats to elephant habitats due to fragmentation and degradation have increased. Understanding these threats to elephant habitat and how our interventions like restoration of corridors could help in improving the resilience of habitats are important to deliberate. With these objectives, the Project Elephant Division along with Elephant Cell organized a two-day’s workshop at Dehradun on 20^th to 21^st January 2020. Forest officials, wildlife scientists and young field biologists participated in the workshop. A total of 35 participants and 15 resource persons participated in the workshop. A detailed proceedings of the workshop have been prepared and circulated. Workshop proceedings was prepared and circulated to PE division.
