Proposed Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary

back

The habitat parameters of GIB in the proposed Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary were studied to establish the existing potential of the area. These were food, cover and Vvater. Information on dispersal and seasonal movements, feeding and breeding ecology of GIB was collected from several scientific documents (Ali and Rahmani 1984, Rahmani and Manakadan 1988) and personal communications with wildlife biologist/conservationist and managers of GIB habitats in Pohri, Karera and Ghatigoan.

Inference regarding the impacts of the proposed upgradation project on GIB were then drawn on the basis of extent of negative and positive impacts on GIB ecology and habitat as determined by the study.

To determine the relative importance of GIB habitat in Pohri and the including Karera Bustard Sanctuary and Ghatigoan Sanctuary were also visited and existing status of GIB and its habitats in these PAs was assessed.
