Mitigation Planning

back

Within the scope of the present study of Environmental Impact Assessment, the identification of the impacts of the VV pipeline on wildlife and their habitats has been undertaken. The following salient features of the proposed VV pipeline project have taken care of most environmental concerns that could have arisen out of such a project.

1. The pipeline route has been aligned generally in valley plains and in some cases at the base of the hills. 2. The proposed pipeline route is aligned to avoid traversing through Reserved Forest areas.

5.1 conclusions

Based on this study, we draw the following conclusions:

1. The pipeline route does not traverse through any National Park/ Wildlife Sanctuary and no protected area lies close to the route.
2. There is no impact on wildlife habitats due to this pipeline project.
3. No wild species of conservation significance is being impacted upon by this pipeline project.
4. Reserved Forests particularly Narava, Potukonda, Malarupukonda, Totapalli, Tedlam, Velagalapalli and Jangalapalli are located within 250m from the pipline route. These forests are already impacted upon by the overuse and may not sustain the additional impacts (in the form of firewood collection, timber collection for construction of huts etc.) that are anticipated during the construction and post construction phase.

5.2 Recommendations:

1. The need for firewood and construction material for the labourers during construction phase should be substituted with alternate resources.

2. The 'Right of Way' of pipeline should be afforested with local tree and shrub species in consultation with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department for a stretch of at least 15m in areas wherever the pipeline route would pass either through or close to RFs and other forested areas.
