Proposal to set up a Nuclear Power Station at a site near Nagarjunasagar in Andhra Pradesh had been moved early in the year 1962. Owing to the fact that the proposed site is located near Nagarjunasagar Tiger Reserve, both, the bottlenecks in the implementation of the proposal and the merits of Nagarjunasagar site have been a subject of constant debate and discussions ever since then. A technical committee constituted by Govt. of India in April 1990, the Site Selection Committee constituted in 1992 and Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, finally decided to entrust the task of establishing site feasibility to the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun. To this effect, Andhra Pradesh Electricity Board (APSEB) offered a consultancy to WII to undertake site feasibility studies.

This report presents the analysis of the observations made by WII team during the field visit for determining the site feasibility.
