The profile of the project and the feasibility studies conducted jointly by Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) formed an important source of information on the project scope. Detailed maps of the project area proved of immense help in the planning of reconnaissance studies. Published and unpublished information collected from various sources and the departmental records of the Maharashtra State Departments for fisheries and forest aided in defining scope of field work. The discussions with the local people supplemented the information compiled on the distribution of aquatic and terrestrial fauna in the project area.
