Not only the industry, but also the agricultural sector is greatly dependent upon the HSD. Research and development efforts have been in progress to formulate strategies to overcome the increasing demands for HSD in India. The proposal to setup a hydrotreatment plant at Bongaigaon is a research and development initiative in this direction.

The proposed Hydrotreatment plant is an additional expansion within the existing complex of Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (BRPL) at Dhaligaon in district Bongaigaon of Assam.
