FOREWORD

Environmental security and developmental progress are perceived as necessary requisites for sustained economic growth of any country or State.
This obviously places greater onus on planners and investors to choose technologically and environmentally sound options and alternatives for the maximisation of economic benefits.  Environmental impact assessment is not just  a `green fad' but is a valuable tool that can assist in the incorporation of environmental concerns in the planning and implementation of development projects. 

This report is an outcome of a short-term ecological assessment study undertaken to evaluate the impacts of the proposed Lengpui airport project. 
I hope this document will serve its purpose well in providing the requisite information on the project impacts as well on the appropriate environmental safeguards to be incorporated in planning, construction and maintenance phases of the proposed Lengpui airport.
