GIS Day November 21-22, 2023
This year, the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) celebrated GIS day on 21-22 November. As a part of the event , WII organized a 2-day researcher led workshop themed "Unleashing the power of GIS: Mapping our world, solving real-world challenges’. The event garnered substantial enthusiasm, drawing a large gathering of approximately 140 researchers. On Day 1, The workshop was inaugurated by the Director, Dean, and Registrar of WII, who shared their experiences in the GIS field. Dr. Gautam Talukdar, Nodal Officer IT, RS & GIS cell, and Prof Qamar Qureshi, Scientist, further enriched the inaugural session with valuable insights. A series of enlightening sessions unfolded, covering topics such as data availability for RS GIS analysis (J. Haritha & Himani Khati), Basics of Cartography (Mr. Debanjan Sarkar & Ms. Shatakshi Sharma), Hands-on session on QGIS (Mr. Ashish Mani & Ms. Aishwarya R.). Attendees immersed themselves in a captivating Google Earth Exploration Quiz (Mr. Varun Kher and Ms. Deepali Bansal). Adding an element of adventure, the WII GIS Team organized a Geospatial Treasure Hunt, integrating it into the hands-on session of Locus Map 4 Outdoor (Ms. Sneha Pandey & Ms. Deepali Bansal).

Invitation to participate in World Ocean Day : 8 June, 2023
As part of the United Nations initiative, the World Ocean Day was first declared at the 'Earth Summit' in Rio de Janerio in 1992. On June 8, 2008, the World Ocean Day was officially designated and celebrated each year henceforth with a different theme. This year's theme is "Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing".
The day is a celebration to raise global awareness regarding the vast oceans that connect us. It gives us a chance to appreciate the ocean's benefits and reminds us to use its resources sustainably.
This is the first time we would celebrate World Ocean Day at the Wildlife Life Institute of India for its community. Thus, we are delighted to share that the CAMPA Dugong Team is organizing an in-house WII activity for this World Ocean Day, 8th June 2023, at the auditorium from 3 to 5 pm.
We have 2 online and 1 offline competition.
ONLINE COMPETITIONS
1) an open online art competition for all researchers with the theme as "Life underwater"
2) a photography competition inviting ocean-related photosOFFLINE COMPETITION
3) and a quiz competition on 8th June 2023
All the entries for art and photos will be screened on 8th June and the winners will be felicitated.
Kindly see the registration link to register for the event. Registration closes on 6th June 2023 (11 PM).
Also, we will be having a photo exhibition of marine life at the auditorium. All of which have been contributed by our researchers.

World Environment Day Quiz, 5 June 2023
WII-EIACP Programme Centre and the students of M.Sc. Wildlife Sciences, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun are collaboratively organizing the World Environment Day Quiz on 5 June, 2023 from 0930 hrs. at Wildlife Institute of India's Auditorium. The quiz will cover a wide range of topics related to wildlife conservation, biodiversity, ecosystem management, and sustainable practices under Mission LiFE. It will consist of multiple rounds, including both general knowledge and specific wildlife-related questions.
