The significance of the site visit in generating primary information can never be undermined in ecological impact assessment. The WII team conducted extensive surveys within the 25 km radius of the project area in the year 1997 for ecological impact assessment of hydro processing unit that was earlier proposed (but could not be set up) in BRPL complex at the same site now identified for DHPU. Although this earlier conducted visit provided a good ecological baseline to rely on, a site visit of the project area was undertaken by WII team in February 2001 with a specific objective to update the already existing ecological baseline of the project area (WII, 1997).
