Foreword

Environmental Impact Assessment of infrastructure development in energy sector command major significance. The spatial and temporal dimensions of ecological impacts associated with such developments need a careful analysis for ensuring the conservation of wilderness resources of the country. This report is an outcome of a short term ecological assessment of the proposed Diesel Hydoprocessing Unit being set up in the existing complex of Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. An attempt has been made here to identify the ecological receptors of the impacts and highlight their conservation significance. The report has drawn extensively from the earlier experience of conducting ecological impact assessment of the hydrotreatment plant proposed within the same complex.
