The Project Feasibility Report (PFR) prepared by Engineers India Ltd. (EIL) 2000 for the proposed project formed an important information source for documenting project profile. Other key sources of information about the environmental dimensions of the Bongaigaon Refinery Petrochemical Ltd. was the EIA study report (unpublished) prepared by the Department of the Chemical Engineering of University of Roorkee in 1991. The information on land use of the study area based on visual interpretation of the remotely sensed data generated by Riders Software Ltd. (2000) provided an initial bench marking for planning ecological studies. Detailed maps of the project obtained for earlier conducted studies in the region of Wildlife Institute of India (WII, 1997) from the offices of the Divisional Forest Officer, Aie Valley Division, Bongaigaon and the Principal Conservator of Forests, Assam State Forest Department, Guvahati Provided the basic references for planning a field study.
