Conservation Significance

Considering that Kakoijana R.F. has an established conservation significance as one of the remnant habitats of Golden langur along the Indo Bhutan border from Manas river in the east and Sankosh river in the west, a proposal to declare it as wildlife sanctuary was mooted by the State Forest Department in January 1999 (copy of letter enclosed as Annexure - III). The proposal to update the state of Kakoijana R.F. to that of a sanctuary is also being strongly backed by the local NGO's like the Nature's Foster and Appropriate Technology Mission, Assam (ATMA) through their efforts of organizing environmental awareness campaign and making appeals to Government of Assam (Appendix - IV & V). The recommendations of the State Government for the declaration of the above sanctuary is now under active consideration. |
