Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve

Salient findings
The identification of ecological values and the nature of threats that impact this PA is fairly constrained due to inadequacy of documented information. A draft Management Plan for RTR has been prepared which is in its final stage. The non availability of Plan at the time of project implementation slowed the implementation of most activities proposed under habitat improvement and management in this PA. In absence of an approved Management Plan, the annual plan was the only basis for recommending the specific activities to be taken up under IEP. The activities are very general prescriptions for overall habitat improvement and management . These are specially for natural resource management of the PA and include removal of Prosopis juliflora, creation of enclosures and soil & water conservation measure.
The status of existing information on significant threats to PA and concrete prescriptions for their effective management is inadequate to support planning & decision-making. As a result, the progress on activities for tackling threats from fuelwood extraction and grazing are the only initiatives in progress in the PA. Although, the PA receives a large volume of tourists, the IEP is deficient in addressing threats from tourism. The overall impact of delayed start and slow progress is that in some instances, the activities have been initiated only in recent past and the post implementation experience is not yet available for objective assessment of their positive impacts.
