Objectives :

To assess traditional construction materials and technologies and identify how they can be improved

Progress:
- To assess traditional construction materials and technologies and identify how they can be improved.
- To customize identified building and water technologies.
- To prepare the templates of appropriate design options for rural houses, community buildings, Anganwadi, rural schools etc.
- To build capacities of masons through trainings and demonstration building, and selected building material enterprise packages to enable availability of materials on ground
- To develop a scientific evidence base for the solutions recommended through tools such as cost-benefit analysis, carbon and resource efficiencies, thermal comfort and safety and contribution to local economies.
Building 1-
All civil work is complete, timber roofing and door/window, staircase, flooring and lime wash in process.
FRI visit done.
Shingles are currently getting installed (under supervision of FRI), wood treatment has been set up at a carpenter’s workshop in Bharkot named Satya Singh Panwar, FRI team trained him in treatment of wood.
Internal and external finishes of the community building is complete.
Toilet drawings and BOQ completed. Door/Window contract has been signed.
Planned Date for handing over : May 15th, 2019
Building 2-
Site is finalised, first layout has been done, BOQ is in process, and meeting with women’s group is done for the production of CEB.
Construction has begun.
Planned date of handing over: 31st July 2019
Building 3 (Sehore)-
Site selection in process.
Planned date of handing over: 30th November 2109
Water System-
Installation of Jal-TARA slow sand filtration system for drinking water at Kamad community building is in process.
Planned date of completion: 30th May 2019
Building Product Testing-
RCC plank and Joist, SCEB, Concrete block, precast Door-window frame.
One round of testing for CSEB Block and Concrete block have been completed and reports are available.
For a second round of testing of blocks as well as Planks and Joists and door-window frames, no facility available at GB Pant University. An email has been sent to IIT Roorkee, we are waiting for the response, material is ready on site to be sent.
Enterprise development-
Concrete pre-fabricated products enterprise at Matli, Uttarkashi- Data for market and business support collected.
Village based Women’s unit, Kamad- Women's group has been finalised and selection of new location on road head for CSEB production facility. Production order for
second building finalised with women's group.
Local carpentry workstation for shingles and trusses, Bharkot- Carpenter Shyam Lal trained and completed order for truss manufacture and timber roof construction along with other trained carpenters. Carpenter Satye Singh Panwar trained in technical aspects for shingle production and treatment system at Bharkot. Equipment received, setting up in process. Production initiation June 2019.
Construction services, Kamad- Trained masons now given construction contracts for full work items rather than daily wage as next step after technical training.
