Ramsagar Lake

back

The Ramsagar lake is situated 40 km west of Dholpur town of Rajasthan. It is a perennial lake with an approximate area of 7 km2 during the dry season. Situated in the semi arid region of Rajasthan, this lake and the associated water bodies adjacent to it have significant ecological values (Plate 2.3). These water bodies are being used by migratory water birds during winter and act as satellite buffers of the Keoladeo National Park, which is one of the largest bird sanctuary in the region. In one of the adjacent water bodies Talabshahi, the endangered Siberian crane has been sighted in 1989. The proposed pipeline route runs parallel to the entire length of the Ramsagar lake which is approximately 250 meter away from it (Fig. 2.1). This lake -an important habitat for migratory fowls was therefore selected as one of the sites for intensive study.
