Advertisement for the Admission to XVI M.Sc. Course in Wildlife Science (2017-2019)

The Wildlife Institute of India (www.wii.gov.in) is an internationally acclaimed premier national institute in providing professional and training, research and advisory services in wildlife conservation and management. The Institute invites applications from eligible Indian and foreign candidates having passion for its prestigious 2 year Master’s Degree Programme in Wildlife Science for the Year 2017-2019.

Total intake for the course is 20 students (15 Indian and 5 foreign nationals). The Institute will provide scholarships to eight Indian students based on their selection merit.  The scholarship covers academic fee, hostel accommodation fee and a monthly stipend. 

The online registration of applicants, submission of application and payment of application processing fee will open on 02 March, 2017 and close on 15 April, 2017.

A Workshop on Machine Learning Applications held at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.

As part of CAMPA-Dugong Project, a training workshop on 'Machine Learning applications and open access for biodiversity conservation: Examples and details including climate change predictions' by professor Falk Huettmann from the Institute of Arctic Biology, University of Alaska was organised on the 29th and 30th December 2016. The workshop was attended by 35 researchers and it dealt with hands-on training on various aspects like data mining, bagging, boosting, etc. The workshop also covered the usage of data mining tools and open source software like R and QGIS as well as proprietary data mining software like Random Forest, CART, Tree Net, etc. for Predictive GIS Modelling, Web-based Wildlife Databases and Metadata, Spatial Aspects of Population Viability Analysis (PVA), and Landscape Scenarios of Wildlife Habitat, etc. The workshop was concluded with fruitful discussions on importance of machine learning tools in different aspects of ecology and conservation (Contact Mr Anant Pande: anant [at] wii [dot] gov [dot] in).
