Preparatory Felling

2.4.1 Preparatory Felling
The preparatory felling in non-submergence areas have to be done at the very inception of the project works, as the areas have to cater for housing the magazine, for dam construction lay out, approach roads, Head Race Channel (HRC), Tail Race Channel (TRC), sand and metal quarries, approach to power house, etc. (Plate 5).
Sanction of GOI for deforestation of the needed area in the specified compartments is available. However, the area has to be demarcated on the ground by NHDC and then marked on to the map. Before felling can be taken up by the Forest Department, area changes if necessary will have to be regularized by NVDA and MOEF. At the time of writing of this document, the demarcation and survey is under way. The suggested preparatory felling activities for dam construction on both left and right banks in the first year is given in the Table 6.

Note:- These felling have to be done, only in areas, which are duly demarcated by NHDC, according to their proposed layout. The total area must be computed and cross-checked with the area mentioned in the table above, as these are sanctioned under Forest Conservation Act, 1980 and no excess should be felled, except under proper authority.
