The possible impacts will largely depends on the technology used for crossing of Chambal. Open cast method requires diversion of water during construction period. This involves blasting and use of heavy equipment. The use of this method will lead to considerable disturbance and changes in habitat of wetland species of Chambal particularly, gharial. The impacts on the terrestrial ecosystem however will be the cumulative effects of loss of cover, soil erosion, biotic pressure and disturbances associated with maintenance and monitoring of the pipeline.
