The Ramsagar lake, situated in the Dholpur district of Rajasthan (26035' - 26040' N, 77040' -77040') is a perennial lake with an approximate area of 7 km2 during the dry season. The lake receives water largely from Bamni river in north and Janghai river in the south and serves as a source for irrigation and domestic water supply. Fishing, livestock grazing and reed cutting are other activities associated with this lake. The water level in this lake is largely dependent upon the monsoon rainfall. As the water level falls, muddy fringes and small islands become exposed. These are extensively cultivated by private land holders.
