The lease areas for the three proposed lignite mining projects of the Gujarat Mineral Development corporation namely Mata-no-Madh, Umarsar and Akrimota Mining Projects lies between North latitude 23o27' and 23o47' and East longitude 68o48' and 68o59' and are located in Lakhpat Taluka of Kutch district (Figure 1a). All the three lignite fields located within the distance of 150 km from Bhuj, are accessible by roads. The state highway runs through the lease areas. The nearest all weather port is Kandla. The nearest air and rail link is Bhuj.
