Infrastructural and resource inputs that support various activities involved in the mining operations were identified. These are summarised in Figure 2.

It is obvious from the Figure 2 that land and water resources are the two most important inputs into the mining project that can impact the wildlife habitat quality. An effort was also made to identify the receiving environments and the nature of changes in the environmental parameters that could be attributed to the mining project. A checklist (Figure 3) of potential changes in the different receptor environments has been developed based on the guidelines contained in the sectoral details of mining projects in the Source Book Programme (Anon., 1993).
