General surveys and site visits

back

The lignite mine at Panandhro was visited during the field survey. The mine at Panandhro was in different stages of mining and restoration and provided a general idea of the intensity and duration of disturbance that such activity was likely to cause (Plate 1). Subsequently, each of the 3 new proposed mine site was visited and intensively surveyed. Non-specific surveys were conducted within a radius of 10km of each proposed mining site (Plate 2, 3 & 4). The objective of this survey was a rapid assessment of the general status of the habitat, vegetation, wildlife, people pressures and wolves.
