General surveys and site visits

The lignite mine at Panandhro was visited during the field survey. The mine at Panandhro was in different stages of mining and restoration and provided a general idea of the intensity and duration of disturbance that such activity was likely to cause (Plate 1). Subsequently, each of the 3 new proposed mine site was visited and intensively surveyed. Non-specific surveys were conducted within a radius of 10km of each proposed mining site (Plate 2, 3 & 4). The objective of this survey was a rapid assessment of the general status of the habitat, vegetation, wildlife, people pressures and wolves. |
