Mata-no-Madh area had lower human use compared to Umarsar and Akrimota (Table 1). Besides evidence of a breeding wolf population, a critically endangered cat, the caracal (Felis caracal) was sighted in the Buffer zone of Mata-no Madh area (Plate 7). A flock of Great Indian Bustards (Choriotis nigriceps) (Plate 8) was also sighted in the Mata-no-Madh study site. Discussions with the locals suggests that the Haubora bustard (Chlamytotis undulata) and the Lesser florican (Sypheotides indica) also use parts of this area during the monsoon. Both the species of bustards are also highly endangered and are listed under Schedule - I of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act (Anon., 1972).
