Conservation Values

The magnitude and significance of ecological impacts of development projects are directly linked to the conservation values of the natural systems within the zone of project’s influence (Rajvanshi, 1995). Based on the review of criteria that are being internationally used for more than a decade in the assessment of wildlife conservation values (Margules and Usher, 1981), the criteria using biological, ecological and biogeographical concepts has been adopted for the assessment of the conservation values of the project area with special reference to Borghat area, which is the most important ecological unit that would be transgressed by the alignment of the proposed expressway. The assessment of conservation values of the Borghat is based on the following criterion. |
