The urban population of Aizawl district is 478465 of which 1808 is the population of Lengpui, a village in the immediate vicinity of the project site. The village has a population of 921 male and 887 females living in 355 households. The area has a literacy rate of 40%. The local economy is based mainly on agriculture alongwith jhumming. Pisciculture is usually practiced in private ponds.

Mizoram has meagre resources for developing its economy. Inadequate infrastructure and want of raw material are the main bottle-necks for development of industry.
