Geology

The entire Mizoram State is geologically young. The general geology is represented by a repetitive succession of arenaceous and argillaceous sediments which were later thrown into series of an approximately NNW-SSE to NNE-SSW trending longitudinal plunging anticlines and synclines. Geologically, it is said to be formed by a weak and flexible portion of the earth=s crust which has been folded, faulted and over-thrust. The limestone, sandstone, shale and clay make the major portion of the hills.
