Mizoram is one of the young States of the Union-perching on the high hills of North-Eastern corner, flanked by Bangladesh and State of Tripura on the West, Mynamar on the East and South and States of Manipur and Assam on the North. It has an area of 21087km2 and has a 630km long international boundary. It has been a late starter on the path of real development which ushered on restoration of peace after attaining Statehood in 1987, after long period of insurgency and disturbances. It is forging ahead in various fields of social and economic development and is trying to catch up fast with the pace of developmental progress in neighbouring States. The proposed site for airport is located near village Lengpui between 23o45' and 23o55' North latitudes and 92o30= and 92o45 East longitudes in the North Western direction of Aizawl. The proposed site is located approximately 42km from Aizawl (Fig. 2). The airport site has an elevation of 150m above the mean sea level.
