Natural systems rarely react in a direct or straightforward way to external pressures. A great many ecological impacts are in effect, cumulative and interactive. There can be incremental accumulation, delayed responses, discontinuous trends and exceedence of thresholds or the crossing of stability boundaries. The impacts of proposed airport project would also fall in one or more of the categories of impacts described above.
