Dr. Urmila Jha Thakur is a post-doc researcher in Environmental Assessment at the University of Liverpool, Department of Civic Design. She graduated in Geography in 2000 from University of North Bengal, India, with First Class Honours and with a University second rank (silver medal).

Her interest in environmental management started during her undergraduate degree when she conducted a grass-root level survey of a rehabilitated village located within a coal mining area in India.

To pursue her interest further in the field of environmental management, Urmila studied MBA (Environmental Management) in University of Liverpool. Supported by Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) and University of Liverpool International scholarship, she continued with her Ph.D. in the field of EIA. During her Ph.D. she was also invited for work placement in Wildlife Institute of India (Dehradun). During this placement, she studied how EIA follow-up considerations were incorporated in the pre-decision stage of EIA. Urmila is a member of the PENTA team.
