| Prof. S.P. Banerjee graduated in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad and obtained M. Engg. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Sheffield. He served ISM as Professor of Mining Engineering (1973-91) and later became the first full time Professor and Head of the Centre of Mining Environment at ISM. He retired from ISM as its Director-in-Charge in 1995 and then joined the Indian Institute of Coal Management, Ranchi as Dean of Mining and Environment. He has been a member of the Expert Committee (Mining) of the MoE&F, Govt. of India during the period 1990-2007.
He has worked as Environmental Consultant with the Supervision and Monitoring team for the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Mitigation Project for the Indian Coal Sector during 1997-2002 and became a member of the World Bank Mission for ESMP in 2003. During 2000 - 2002, he served as Environmental Consultant for one month each year in Bhutan under the DANIDA supported ESPS programme. Prof. Banerjee is a past President of the Mining Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India and is a recipient of the National Mineral Award of Govt. of India. |
