Dr Asha obtained a masters degree in Botany and a doctoral degree for the research she conducted to assess the ecological impacts of limestone mining and kilning in Doon Valley.

She is currently a Professor at the Wildlife Institute of India and heads its EIA Cell. She has over two decades of experience as an EIA practitioner, trainer and researcher. She has led more than 30 EIA studies, coordinated and delivered several training programmes in India and other parts of the world and have significantly contributed to the global capacity building initiatives through the development of guidance tools for mainstreaming biodiversity in EA. She has worked on international assignments for the World Bank, UNEP, The Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment and The Wetland International.

She is also providing advisory support to Govt. of India and other professional bodies on EIA related matters. She is a member of Expert Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India for thermal power and coal mining projects; Environment Committee of the Indian Road Congress; Technical Committee of the Quality Council of India for registration of EIA consultants and the co-chair of the Biodiversity section of the International Association for Impact Assessment.
