Training Course on "Impacts of Mining Projects on Biodiversity" (15 - 17 March, 2004)

back

The nexus between economic development and the conservation of natural resources has been, in particular, a subject of recurrent debate. One of the most visible and controversial issues has been the impact of the mining industry, whose products are essential for society’s development needs, but whose activities also have impacts on the environment and thus biodiversity. There is a felt need to promote technical capacity for using EIA more effectively in promoting sustainable development by incorporating biodiversity conservation concerns in development planning.

In response to this emerging need, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd. (CMPDI) has requested this Institute to organize a three day training course on “impacts of mining projects on biodiversity’ for their executives during 15 – 17 March, 2004 at Ranchi.

This course aims to build capacity of the executives of the environment division of the mining companies to better appreciate the relevance of biodiversity issues in environmental decision making and to promote good practices of integrating floral/faunal concerns in impact assessment of mining projects. A number of experts from specialised agencies and institutions, along with our faculty members will impart this training.
