 Guidelines for siting of industry

Industries have established environmental impacts on the natural environment and the severity of such impacts is often determined by the sensitivity of certain landuses to industrial impacts. With this in view, the fundamental objective of the environmental guideline for industries is to provide a certain distance criteria for siting of industries to ensure protection to natural environment. As per the conditions laid down in the guidelines, the industrial site shall maintain the following distances from the areas listed below:

  • Urban areas with population above 1 million and 25 km from the periphery of other Urban area should be treated as the 'no development zone'.

  • The zone of 5 km from the periphery of ecologically sensitive/protected areas should be considered as 'environmental conservation zone'.

  • The zone of 5 to 25 km from the periphery of sensitive/protected area shall be treated as regulatory zone. The development in this zone can be considered based on the results of micro level studies including EIA (EMP and Risk Analysis included) provided the ambient air quality conforms to the standard laid down by Central Pollution Control Board(CPCB).

  • A zone of 2 km from the periphery of areas designated as migratory corridors for endangered species of wildlife should be treated as 'no development zone'.

  • The industrial and development activities in the zone covering an area of 11400 sq. km. (Approx.) between 26°45’ and 77°15’ to 27°45N to 77°15’E in the West of Taj Mahal and in the East of Taj Mahal (Taj Trapezium) between 27°’N and 78°30’ E to 27°30’N and 78°30’E are strictly prohibited.
