Training objectives

  Revisit current trends of road and rail development in India to review the socio- economic merits and implications for biodiversity conservation.
  Provide an overview of key ecological impacts of developments in road and rail sectors.
  Promote partnership for responsible planning of roads and rails in India and countries in South Asia.
  Encourage global and regional best practice guidance for steering developments in road and rail sector more responsibly.
     

Target group

    As road and rail planners, transportation engineers, decision makers, wildlife managers and impact assessment professionals together must work towards making road development compatible with the goals of community well-being and wildlife conservation, this course should interest all of the following stakeholders:
     
  Planners and engineers of road and rail sectors
  Wildlife managers and representatives of conservation organisations
  Environmental and planning experts
  EIA consultants dealing with transportation sector
  Academia/ research institutes
     
   

The course is primarily targeted for participants from India but depending upon the interest can be also opened up for participants from other counties in the region that represent either tiger and elephant range lands or have trans-boundary roads.
